Mechanical Design Engineer Full Time

Our client is an engineering and product development company based in Somerset West, delivering innovative mechanical design and engineering solutions to international clients. Working across complex industrial and propulsion applications, the business offers engineers the opportunity to collaborate with international development teams and work on advanced products from concept and detailed design through to manufacturing and implementation. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven Mechanical Design Engineer to join a technically strong team, gain international exposure, and grow within a dynamic engineering environment.

Requirements:
• BEng/BSc/BTech/MEng in Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical design and/or product development
• Proven experience designing complex mechanical systems and assemblies
• Experience taking designs from concept through detailed design, manufacturing, testing, and implementation
• Strong 3D CAD experience; Siemens NX preferred, with SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, CATIA, or similar also considered
• Experience producing technical drawings and engineering documentation
• Good understanding of GD&T, materials, manufacturing processes, and production methods
• Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Good English communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and international engineering teams
• Proactive approach with a willingness to develop technically
• Experience with rotating equipment, gearboxes, drivetrains, propulsion systems, maritime applications, or heavy-industrial systems advantageous

Responsibilities:
• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and system layouts from concept through to production
• Create detailed 3D models, technical drawings, engineering calculations, and analyses
• Ensure designs comply with relevant technical specifications, standards, and certification requirements
• Collaborate with international and multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges
• Conduct feasibility studies and validate design decisions through calculations and simulations
• Improve and optimise existing products and mechanical designs
• Prepare and present technical documentation and design findings
• Support product development, testing, and implementation activities
• Contribute to engineering processes, guidelines, and best practices
• Take ownership of assigned mechanical design projects and deliverables
